Our specialized programs are only part of people’s recovery journeys. We work with partner organizations across B.C. to help ensure forensic clients and patients continue to get the housing, support and treatment they need as they transition back home.

Our transitional and supportive housing programs are for people who have received a "conditional discharge" from the
BC Review Board. A conditional discharge means that a person found
not criminally responsible for a crime, or unfit to stand trial due to a mental disorder, is now well enough to live in the community. They must still live where directed and participate in monitoring and ongoing treatment.
Most people who receive conditional discharges have already received treatment at the
Forensic Psychiatric Hospital.

Our
Forensic Community Transition Care Program has 41 beds and is located on the
Riverview Lands. The program is for people who need substantial support following their conditional discharge.
We offer another 106 beds that range from residential addictions treatment beds, semi-independent housing beds and rent subsidies. These beds are provided in partnership with organizations throughout B.C.
While these beds are only for people currently accountable to the BC Review Board following a conditional discharge, many of our program partners, listed below, work directly with regional health authorities and the public to provide other housing options for those who need them. Contact them directly for information on accessing a bed on your own.
Supportive and transitional housing facilities vary with each of our partners. We determine which facility is best for our clients and patients based on their needs and where they wish to live following their conditional discharge. Many wish to return to their home communities.
